The family at the start of the series has recently moved from Iowa to Edgewater, Minnesota to live with Nana following the death of her husband. Her family lives in an upper-class neighborhood. Chrissa is a very creative girl and knows how to knit as well as sew. Her favorite sports are swimming and diving; she is a strong, skilled swimmer. She likes to help her dad with pottery. She is left-handed. Chrissa is quiet and hesitant. She finds it hard to make friends at her new school, but tries her best to be friendly. Soon after arriving she becomes the target of bullying, led by Tara James and Jadyn Johnson who, along with Sonali Matthews, form a group called the Queen Bees. She later makes friends with Gwen Thompson and Sonali, though her friendship with both of them had a rough start. Her grandmother's pets, mini-llamas named Cosmos and Checkers, later give birth to a baby named Starburst which becomes Chrissa's pet. She also has a Siamese cat named Keefer. Chrissa's dress does not appear to have specific significance to Chrissa's stories but shows aspects of her creative side. Dress: Long-sleeved red-pink faux-wrap dress with V-neck.
