Antique German Miniature 4”China Head Dollhouse Doll Cloth Body Original Clothes. She’s an amazing little thing! At just 4 1/4” tall, she’s small enough to fit in the dollhouse, or to be held in the arms of a larger doll. Her molded hair is worn in the “high brow” style, dating her to about 1870, with a center part, and sausage curls in nine ringlets around her head. In the spotlight for your bidding fun is this antique miniature German china head doll wearing antique clothing that is likely the originals! She’s an amazing little thing! At just 4 1/4” tall, she’s small enough to fit in the dollhouse, or to be held in the arms of a larger doll. Her molded hair is worn in the “high brow” style, dating her to about 1870, with a center part, and sausage curls in nine ringlets around her head. She has a pink tint to her shoulder head, with rosy cheeks and blue eyes. Her lower limbs are of un-tinted white china, the arms long and slender with spoon shaped hands. Her lower legs are also of porcelain, ending in flat black boots with tan soles. Special attention should be paid here, as the boots are not quite a match. One leg is more slender, as are the boots, which also have different colored soles. Now, they both appear to be antique, but has one been replaced? There’s nothing else to indicate that. Limbs on these dolls are not always perfectly symmetrical, so I don’t know one way or the other for sure. The doll is so tiny that you really don’t notice some of the imperfections in her face painting without magnification. And yet, there it is—a little skip or loss on the lip paint, and a stray dash of black paint that should have stayed within the confines of her left eyebrow. She is such a sweetie that this can easily be overlooked! I love her antique garments, so dainty and small! You can see that once they were pink, but have now both faded and yellowed, at the same time. Her outer skirt has a scalloped and pinked edge that is very pretty, with a big bow at her waist. The ruffles on her bodice are very frilly and are a very nice touch. The acidity of her sawdust torso is likely the culprit that has darkened the bodice. There are lots of fancy, fragile layers to her outfit, including a net half slip and lacy pantalets. The fabrics have taken on a brown patina, and there are tiny holes worn in the netted slip. These ARE antique garments, and very likely her original ones! In the last picture I show her with a friend—an antique bisque doll with glass sleep eyes.
