Canadian National purchased large numbers of these cars (including the 417000 series) for paper, lumber, grain products, and general merchandise service. Painted in CN’s signature dark green with the “wet noodle” herald, they became a very common sight across Canada and on connecting U.S. railroads from the 1970s through the 2000s. Many of these versatile 50-footers remained in active service for decades.
