Completed in 1891, the original design was created by Russian Situlpov, and Josiah Conder designed it for implementation. It has the plane of the Greek cross, which is characteristic of the Orthodox church, and has an octagonal dome roof with a height of 35 meters in the center. The interior is Japan's first and largest full-scale Byzantine-style church building with large arches on all sides in the center and pendentives squeezing out from each corner to support the dome. The series of Ozzy arches under the dome is also eye-catching, and the decorative iconostasis that is characteristic of the Orthodox church is arranged in front of the cathedral. However, the current dome and bell tower have changed from their original shape due to restoration after the Great Kanto Earthquake. Shinichiro Okada was in charge of the restoration design.
