Embinder, Blue Boy was a pioneer in gay monthly magazines with lifestyle and entertainment news, in addition to photos of nude or semi-nude men . It was published monthly from 1974 to 2007. The Detroit Free Press described the publication as "a full-color, slick gay version of Playboy magazine." Its focus was on an upscale, urban gay market. While containing slick, full frontal male nude photography. The magazine went from being sold at adult bookstores and gay bars to being front and center at pharmacies and mainstream book & magazine shops across the country.
