Japanese Labels and Packages Meiji Taisho Showa Product Graphic Design Book. (I'll leave the academic delving to other specialized books). In this book, we define these living witnesses, clad in the lingering scent of an era overflowing with energy, as "romantic designs" and wish to revive on paper the atmosphere of an era filled with romance. 【Description】 From the opening of the country at the end of the Edo period to the beginning of the Showa period, Japan experienced a turbulent 100 years. As soon as it awoke from its long peaceful slumber, it underwent a radical transformation in politics, economy, culture, and thought, and made a miraculous leap forward to become a modern nation. It was a period of rapid and unrelenting growth in which Japan desperately sought to catch up with and overtake the Western powers.Culturally, the Meiji Restoration, civilization opening, Europeanization, industrialization, nationalism, Taisho democracy, Taisho Romanticism, and Showa Modernism were all part of a rapidly changing historical background.Western culture and traditional Japanese culture, which flowed in like a torrent from the West.Although it is difficult to get a bird's-eye view of the vibrant cultural changes of that era at a glance, it is possible to get a strong sense of the atmosphere of the times from the creative works involved in commercial activities. Specifically, we would like to achieve this by focusing on the wonderful designs and graphic designs on product packages, labels, and advertisements such as posters and price tags. These items, like paintings and crafts, were not created to be preserved for posterity, but to appeal directly to the people living at that time, and to make the products themselves shine in an instant.Hence, they are packed with the concentrated vitality of the times. In this book, we define these living witnesses, clad in the lingering scent of an era overflowing with energy, as "romantic designs" and wish to revive on paper the atmosphere of an era filled with romance. It is also to look back on the social history of food, clothing, shelter, and entertainment; the history of design from ukiyoe to Victorian patterns, Art Nouveau, Art Deco, and functionalist modern design; the evolution of container materials such as bottles and tin cans; and the progress of printing technology from woodblock to copperplate, lithograph, zinc plate, and aluminum plate.(I'll leave the academic delving to other specialized books). Anyway, the bold composition of labels distributed in the foreign settlement areas of Yokohama and Kobe, the elaborate designs on raw silk labels for export, humorous and varied match labels, cosmetics packages that were sensitive to the Western Art Nouveau and Art Deco styles, advertisements for medicines that were in the tradition of the Ukiyo-e technique, etc.I would like to trace the dreamy footsteps of these fascinating items, including beer and cigarette labels that began as imitations of imported goods, and labels for antiques and confectionery decorated to the point of excessive ornamentation. Why is it that we, who did not live in those times, feel nostalgia, warmth, and a sense of comfort in "romantic designs," as if it were the springtime of our own lives? It is as if we had been surrounded by these designs on a daily basis in a previous life, and we are almost intoxicated by their unattainable sweet power. 【Payment】 Please pay within 3 days after your purchase. 【Shipping】 Japan Post DHL Fedex Economy Shipping:No tracking Standard Shipping: With tracking 【Returns】 We accept returns within 30 days of purchase. <Return conditions> -Request for return within 30 days of purchase. -Return costs are borne by the Seller. -Please inquire before application. 【International Buyers – Please Note:】 Import duties, taxes and charges are not included in the item price or shipping charges.
