The image, taken from the Mount of Olives looking west across the Kidron Valley toward the Old City, prominently features the Russian Orthodox Church of Mary Magdalene with its distinctive gilded onion domes (built 1888 by Tsar Alexander III in memory of his mother), set among the Kidron's terraces and tombs with the walled Old City and surrounding hills beyond. Verso bears a lengthy printed descriptive text discussing the view, the Valley of Jehoshaphat, Mount Moriah, the Mosque of Omar, and the city's religious significance, with a 1909 Keystone View Company copyright on the text.
