Ridgways Brown Transfer Dado Soap Dish 1884 and 1892. Standard Ridgways Quiver & Bow logo. Dado is a very popular example of the Aesthetic Japonesque style. Containing Plum blossoms, fruit, insets of birds, an obi design with chrysanthemums, it checks all the boxes of it’s era. Ridgways Brown Transfer Dado Soap Dish 1884 and 1892 Di mensions: 5 ¾” Wide with handles 4 ½” Tall with handle, essentially square Condition: No chips or cracks BUT staining on the inside of the soap dish and strainer. Some staining on one corner. Markings: Brown Transfer: Standard Ridgways Quiver & Bow logo DADO Rd No 20250 Rd No 688 Impressed: 88 20 Description: There are two registry numbers on this piece, one indicating 1884 and one indicating 1892. Dado is a very popular example of the Aesthetic Japonesque style. Containing Plum blossoms, fruit, insets of birds, an obi design with chrysanthemums, it checks all the boxes of it’s era. I am not sure what stained the drain tray and the bottom, some sort of strong soap, possible lye, that sought out the thin areas of the glaze and stained them brown. You cannot see the spotting when the lid is on. One could also use this for sponges. A nice piece for the Dado collector.
