Testors/Italeri OB Kit #627 Douglas DC-3 (or C-47 Skytrain) Civilian or Military. The kit is of the Douglas DC-3. Possibly the most respected aircraft in the late 1930s, it took over and dominated US airlines, flying over 90% of US passenger mile in 1939. The DC-3 was adapted for military service when World War II began. Offered here is a Testors/ITALERI Open Box 1/72 Douglas DC-3 Model Kit No. 627, with parts and markings for both the DC-3 and the C-47 Skytrain. The kit is of the Douglas DC-3. Possibly the most respected aircraft in the late 1930s, it took over and dominated US airlines, flying over 90% of US passenger mile in 1939. The DC-3 was adapted for military service when World War II began. It was designated the C-47 "Skytrain." More the 8,000 C-47s were built and saw service on all fronts. Primarily used as troop and cargo transport; also was used to tow gliders and was instrumental in the delivery of CG-4A gliders during the invasion of Normandy. It was copied by the Japanese. After the war, it was used to air-drop much-needed food and medical supplies to civilians all over Europe. It still is in service and used for charter flights and other special missions.
