Vintage 1972 Black Leather SEARS STEEL-TOE SHOES 9.5D USAS Z41.1-1967/60 9.5 D. The soles are stamped with "Gold Bond Neoprene Oil Resisting". You are bidding on a vintage pair of size 9½ D black leather steel-toe work shoes sold by Sears, Roebuck c. 1972. The soles are stamped with "Gold Bond Neoprene Oil Resisting". The shoes have the code "USAS Z41.1-1967/60" (see pics), which refers to the safety specification in effect as of 1967; the '/60' might be a measure of crush resistance, or something. They are style code "82316-669", which may have been some kind of catalog or SKU number. According to the inner sole insert, wearing these shoes is like "walking on air" and they have "heel-to-toe cushioned comfort". If any of that isn't true, take your complaints to Sears. These shoes are in very good condition and may never have been worn, judging from the lack of heel wear and the crisp printing inside the shoes. I would keep these for myself, but they are a little small for me. They are old-school, American-made, last-forever products like we used to just take for granted - not the cheap disposable plastic-y junk they push on us today. These could definitely use a good polishing, as they have lost some shine in the last 5 decades of storage and occasional handling. But it looks like it wouldn't take much to bring them back if someone wanted them to be pretty again. Then again, how pretty do steel-toed shoes have to be?
