The book is in good shape, there is minimal wear on the cover, it is inscribed with a name and phone numbers of a prior owner lightly written on the inside back cover (see photos), and there is one page that is a little wrinkled on the corner (see photos). The book was made into a movie with the same title presented by The Walter Reade Organization starring Yvette Mimieux and Christopher George. The movie was produced and directed by Tay Garnett and was a Spillane-Fellows Production and a Continental release. 7" tall and 4.25" wide. Frank Morrison "Mickey" Spillane was an American crime and detective novelist born on March 9, 1918, in Brooklyn, New York. He is known as the "King of Pulp Fiction". His books have sold more than 225 million copies. His signature detective character was "Mike Hammer". Spillane served in the Army Air Corps in World War II as a fighter pilot. He worked a variety of jobs including lifeguard, trampoline artist for the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus, and salesman at Gimbels department store. Spillane started writing for Funnies, Inc. He concocted adventures for major 1940s comic book characters including Captain Marvel, Superman, Batman, and Captain America. He also wrote for Timely Comics. His first novel was "I, the Jury", published in 1947. The book sold 6.5 million copies in the United States alone and introduced his famous character Mike Hammer. The 1956 guide "Sixty Years of Best Sellers" found that six of Spillane's novels were among the top ten best-selling American fiction titles of all time. Spillane's Signet paperbacks were known for dramatic front cover illustrations. Covers were created by artists such as Lu Kimmel and James Meese. Spillane was also an occasional actor, once even playing Mike Hammer in the 1965 film "The Girl Hunters". Spillane played himself as a detective in "Ring of Fear" in 1954. Several of Spillane's books were made into movies including "Kiss Me Deadly". He appeared in television shows "The Ford Show" and "Columbo". He also acted in the films "Mommy" and "Mommy 2: Mommy's Day". In 1969, Spillane formed a production company with Robert Fellows, but Fellows died soon after and only "The Delta Factor" was produced. Spillane appeared in Miller Lite beer commercials in the 1980s. He also licensed one of his characters to Tekno Comix for use in a science-fiction adventure series, "Mike Danger". In 1993, Spillane received the lifetime achievement award from the Private Eye Writers of America. He also received the Edgar Allan Poe Grand Master Award in 1995. He received the Inkpot Award in 1994.
