YMO 1978-2043 Definitive Story of Yellow Magic Orchestra Book Ryuichi Sakamoto. Although I am not an insider, I have tried to trace a new history of YMO from a perspective close to that of an insider. 【Description】 This book is divided into two parts: Part 1 covers the period from 1978, when YMO was formed, to just after it "disbanded" in 1983, when it was reborn, and Part 2 covers the period from 1992 to early 2021. Part 1 is composed of testimonies obtained from interviews with many people involved after carefully examining domestic and international materials from that time. How did the rare entity called YMO come into being in Japan in the late 1970s and early 1980s, why was it widely accepted in the social situation at the time, and how was it able to expand overseas in an unprecedented way? I was a teenager living in a provincial city at the time, and this time I took a fresh look at the former YMO that I had looked at with admiration from a distant outsider. Here, I have tried to clear my mind of the "myths" about YMO that were constructed and almost completed in the 1980s and 1990s, and pursued the facts with an unbiased mind and confirmed the information. I also looked into how YMO was viewed and perceived overseas at the time. From the 1990s to the present, which is covered in Part 2, I have been fortunate to have had many opportunities to come into contact with YMO and its members as an interviewer, and have been able to attend several of their overseas performances. By incorporating many of the testimonies and impressions I gained from those experiences into the manuscript, I was fortunate to be able to assemble the content of Part 2 based on the facts and words I saw with my own eyes and heard with my own ears, rather than YMO as seen through the filter of a third party such as the media.
