Superb 19C Very Rare Period Pair Classic English Jackfield Staffordshire Porcelain Mantle Dogs • Scarce Gallery Quality Antique Staffordshire • Incredible Blue Cast to Glaze • Height 9.5” • Purchased England This is a stunning scarce antique museum quality pair of black English Staffordshire Jackfield mantle dogs with gold markings featuring classic formal expressions, yet each one with its own warm personality. In rare large period scale and form, this pair of stately right and left facing figures with bring a touch of English aesthetic to any setting in which it is placed. Highly desirable and modelled in a versatile 9.5” height. In excellent condition and boasting stunning blue cast to glaze, a characteristic and sought after subtlety. The tinted glaze pools on the base underside in places, a marvelous nuance which informs its period and storied past. No post-production cracks or chips. Minimal expected age related wear. This very rare surviving pair brings effortless elegance when placed for display on its own on a mantle, shelf or table, or when grouped as an important feature as part of special collection or arrangement.
